We’re shaping a more sustainable future for Brickell—see how:
Sustainable development is central to our business philosophy and company culture. In our SD 2030 Strategy, we’ve outlined a plan that positions us as the leading sustainable developer globally by 2030.
We’ve established four strategic pillars to drive our SD 2030 vision: PLACES, PEOPLE, PARTNERS, PERFORMANCE (Economic) + PERFORMANCE (Environmental).
We’re shaping a more sustainable future for Brickell—see how:
Did you know that Brickell City Centre was made from a high volume of recycled materials? By consciously choosing environmentally friendly materials, we not only reduced the demand for new ones, but also decreased waste without compromising quality or appearances.
In 2021, we hosted our annual Earth Month “Pop-Ins,” raising $10,550 to donate to non-profit organization “One Tree Planted”. For every dollar donated, One Tree Planted plants a new Florida tree – and once all those trees are fully mature, they’ll collectively reduce an annual 500,000+ pounds of CO2 in the air!
This one-of-kind structure that hovers over Brickell City Centre is sure to take your breath away! In addition to its beauty and size (over 15,000 sq ft), the Climate Ribbon also features unique sustainability features like a natural cooling system for the entirety of Brickell City Centre and a water recycling system that collects and repurposes an estimated 3 million gallons per year. Next time you visit BCC, look up to see creativity and innovation hard at work.
Discover a piece of Brickell City Centre history that lives in Museum Park. In 2012, when we were beginning construction of BCC, we wanted to make sure we were protecting the biodiversity of the area while we worked. To do that, we ended up donating 40 historic oaks, gumbo limbo and strangler fig trees from the building site to Museum Park, where they continue to thrive to this day.
In 2021, we entered Miami’s Building Efficiency 305 Challenge, where participating buildings work to see who can achieve the best water and energy efficiency – and we won! As of 2022, our BE305 efforts, when annualized, resulted in site-wide electricity bills being reduced by over 3 million kWh (nearly 20%) compared to 2019 and water consumption was reduced by 17%.
Collecting for a cause. For two years in a row, we hosted a “Reverse Book Fair” at Brickell City Centre, encouraging guests to bring by their gently-used books to swap with other participants or to donate in support of Miami’s youth education. Between the two drives so far, we’ve collected over 2,000 books – reducing waste and benefitting the kids of our community.
In keeping with Earth Month initiatives, we host an annual textile recycling drive at Brickell City Centre in partnership with Sortworthy International. During the drive, we collect clothes, shoes and fabrics that would otherwise be destined for landfill to be repurposed sustainably. In 2024, this drive received 1,165 pounds of donations – a new record!
We talk a lot about sustainability at our developments, so it’s only right that we follow that up with meaningful action. One of the biggest ways we do that at Brickell City Centre is by having over 30 different recycling locations throughout the Centre, making it easier than ever for guests to reduce waste production and do their best for our environment.
Since the launch of our SD 2030 Vision in 2016, our purpose has been clear: to be the leading sustainable developer globally by 2030. In 2024, Swire Properties obtained the top position globally in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) in the Real Estate Management & Development Industry category, rising from second place the year prior.
